I’ve been in the nonprofit world for more than 30 years, most of that time in development. And one of the best ideas I’ve ever seen, first hand, is the “middle donor program.” Or in more user-friendly words, an annual giving leadership program.
I’m talking about the strategies to acquire, steward, and renew donors who give above the traditional annual giving level, and below what many people consider a major gift. In other words, individuals who give between $1,000 and $10,000.
Unfortunately, too few organizations have prioritized these kinds of programs. There are many reasons for that, but for now, take my word for it: you’re missing out – big time – by not pursuing this strategy in your fundraising.
